Terms of Use

1. The agreement

These Terms of Use are an agreement between you and StudyBuff (“StudyBuff”, “we”, “us”) covering the StudyBuff iPhone app and this website. By downloading or using the app, you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, please do not use StudyBuff.

StudyBuff is distributed through the Apple App Store, so Apple’s Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to your use of the app. Where these terms and Apple’s standard EULA genuinely conflict, Apple’s standard EULA governs your licence to the app itself. Our Privacy Policy explains how information is handled and forms part of this agreement.

2. Your licence to use StudyBuff

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use StudyBuff on Apple devices you own or control, for your own study and training, in line with these terms and the App Store Terms of Service.

You may not sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute the app, reverse-engineer or decompile it except where that restriction is prohibited by law, remove any proprietary notices, or use it to build a competing product.

3. Health and safety

By using StudyBuff you acknowledge and agree that:

• You exercise at your own risk. Push-ups, squats, sit-ups, jumping jacks, high knees and lunges carry a risk of injury, as does any physical activity.
• You should consult a qualified professional before starting if you have any medical condition, injury, or reason to think exercise may be unsafe for you, if you are pregnant, or if you have been inactive for a long time.
• Stop immediately if you feel pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, chest discomfort or faintness, and seek medical attention.
• Form guidance is generic. The app shows short cues and estimates your movement from a camera. It cannot see you properly in every setting, cannot assess your technique the way a person can, and may miscount reps or fail to notice that your form is unsafe. Do not treat its feedback as a substitute for qualified coaching.
• Set up your space safely. Give yourself clear room, keep your phone where it cannot fall on you or be tripped over, use a stable surface, and never use the app while driving or anywhere a lapse in attention would be dangerous.
• Rep targets, streaks, quests and the Arena are game mechanics, not a training plan. They are not tailored to your fitness, and you should ignore them whenever your body says so. Do not push past your limits to keep a streak or beat an opponent.

Supervise children who use the app, and make sure any exercise is appropriate for their age.

4. Your decks and your content

Any deck you create, and any notes you paste in, are yours. They are stored on your device, and we neither receive nor claim any rights over them.

Because content lives only on your device, you are responsible for keeping it backed up. Deleting the app, resetting the app, or losing the device will lose your decks and progress. Use encrypted iPhone backups if that matters to you.

You are responsible for having the right to use any material you put into a deck, including material from textbooks, course notes or other copyrighted sources.

5. Study content and accuracy

The decks that ship with StudyBuff are provided for practice. We try to make them correct, but they are a study aid, not an authority — do not rely on them for exams, coursework, professional judgment or anything else that matters without checking your own materials.

Where a future version generates questions or grades answers using AI, that output can be wrong or misleading, and you should treat it with the same scepticism. Grading is a study aid and never an assessment of your ability.

6. The Arena and other players

The Arena lets you race a bot on your own device, or another person nearby over the local network.

In a match against another person your phone connects directly to theirs — there is no server, and no moderation is possible. If you leave your camera on, that person sees a live picture of you for as long as the match runs. You can switch it off at any point, before or during a match.

• Only play with people you are comfortable being seen by. You are choosing to share your camera with whoever is in the room.
• Do not use the Arena to transmit anything unlawful, harassing or obscene.
• We cannot see, record, moderate or retrieve anything exchanged in a match, and we are not responsible for the conduct of other players.

Supervise children in the Arena, and treat it as you would a video call with whoever is present.

7. Acceptable use

Please do not use StudyBuff to break the law, infringe anyone’s rights, interfere with or disrupt the app or another player’s device, attempt to gain unauthorised access to any system, or work around any security or technical limit in the app.

8. Availability and changes

StudyBuff is provided as it is today. We may change, add or remove features, or stop offering the app entirely. We will try to make significant changes clear in the App Store release notes. The app runs on your device, so a version you have already installed keeps working until you update or delete it, subject to your device and iOS.

StudyBuff requires iOS 26 or later and an iPhone. Rep counting requires a working camera.

9. Our intellectual property

StudyBuff, the StudyBuff name, the brain-and-dumbbells mascot, the app’s design, artwork, text and software are owned by us and protected by copyright and trademark law. These terms give you a licence to use the app, not any ownership of it.

Apple, the Apple logo, iPhone and App Store are trademarks of Apple Inc., registered in the U.S. and other countries. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Apple, beyond distributing through the App Store.

10. Disclaimers

To the fullest extent permitted by law, StudyBuff is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, that rep detection or answer grading will be accurate, that the Arena will connect in any given room, or that your data will not be lost.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties, so parts of this section may not apply to you. Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot lawfully be limited.

11. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, lost progress or lost profits, arising out of your use of StudyBuff.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.

Where liability cannot be excluded but can be limited, our total liability is limited to the greater of the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months before the claim, or ten US dollars.

12. Termination

You may end this agreement at any time by deleting StudyBuff from your device. We may end it if you materially breach these terms. Sections 4, 5, 9, 10, 11 and 13 survive.

13. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of [YOUR STATE OR COUNTRY], without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules, and the courts of [YOUR CITY OR REGION] will have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer, you keep the protection of the mandatory laws of the country where you live, and you may be able to bring proceedings there.
